This was the first collaboration between me and my wife, Diana Gabriel. We made this film with the purpose of spending quality time with our dear friend and fellow artist, Katie Creyts, who moved to the Pacific Northwest the following year. Another close friend and mentor, Fielden Nelson, came with to shoot the film. Glassmaker won Best Documentary at EgoFest in 2011.
Glassmaker is a portrait of the artist and an exploration of her personality, her relationship with the art of glassmaking and her interest in creating objects coming from fairy tales’ images and metaphors… Overall, Contreras is able to deliver an intimate and genuine portrait of the artist and her own art. – Ivana Corsale (University of Texas)
